BNSF Railway Announces Leadership Transition with Retirement of CMO Steve Bobb

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FORT WORTH, Texas (July [Day], 2024) – BNSF Railway announced today that Steve Bobb, Chief Marketing Officer, will retire in August after a long and successful career spanning over three and a half decades with the company. Talk about dedication, right?!

Bobb’s Legacy of Leadership and Service

Joining Burlington Northern back in nineteen eighty-seven, Bobb steadily climbed the corporate ladder, kinda like a boss, holding important positions across a variety of departments including:

  • Information Systems
  • Business Analysis
  • Planning
  • Marketing

This dude seriously knows his stuff! He’s successfully led a bunch of different business units, like:

  • Minerals
  • Chemicals
  • Agricultural Products
  • Coal

Talk about a diverse resume! In twenty-thirteen, Bobb was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, where he was the big kahuna over these departments:

  • Sales
  • Marketing
  • Customer Service
  • Economic Development

And as if that wasn’t enough, his time at BNSF also included a stint as General Manager of Operations from two thousand and five to two thousand and eight. Dude’s a rockstar!

BNSF CEO Katie Farmer had nothin’ but praise for Bobb’s hard work and the impact he’s made on the company. “Steve has been instrumental to BNSF’s success for over three decades,” she said. “He cultivated strong customer and community relationships while fostering a culture of innovation and excellence within our marketing organization. We are so thankful for his passion and dedication and wish him and his family all the best in his retirement.” Aw, how sweet is that?!

Williams and Gabriel Step into New Roles

So, with Bobb ridin’ off into the sunset, someone’s gotta fill those big shoes. Effective September first, Tom Williams will succeed Bobb as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. Williams is currently holdin’ it down as Group Vice President, Consumer Products.

But wait, there’s more! Jon Gabriel, currently Vice President, Service Design and Network Strategies, will be takin’ over Williams’ role as Group Vice President, Consumer Products. It’s like a game of musical chairs, but with way higher stakes!

Williams Brings Extensive Experience to CMO Role

Williams joined the former Santa Fe Railway back in nineteen ninety-three (talk about a blast from the past!) and has a super diverse background in:

  • Intermodal
  • Automotive
  • Industrial Products Marketing

This guy’s done it all! His career at BNSF includes some pretty impressive roles like:

  • Assistant Vice President, Intermodal/Automotive Operations (Service Design and Performance Group)
  • Vice President, Industrial Products Sales (twenty-fourteen)
  • Vice President, Industrial Products (twenty-sixteen) – where he was the man in charge of marketing and sales of chemicals, plastics, and petroleum products
  • Group Vice President, Consumer Products (twenty-seventeen) – where he was the head honcho overseeing intermodal and automotive business units

As the new Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Williams will be callin’ the shots for:

  • Sales
  • Marketing Activities
  • Customer Service
  • Economic Development

Farmer seems super confident in Williams’ ability to lead. “Tom’s extensive experience in intermodal, carload, and operations will be super valuable as we continue to evolve, innovate, and deliver industry-leading service,” she said. “His leadership positions BNSF for long-term success.” Sounds like a vote of confidence to me!

Gabriel’s Expertise to Drive Consumer Products Growth

Gabriel’s been killin’ it at BNSF since he started in two thousand and six. He kicked things off in the Consumer Products division before movin’ on to Service Design. In twenty-twelve, he jumped over to Transportation and took on a bunch of leadership roles with more and more responsibility, including:

  • General Manager of the Montana and Northwest Divisions
  • General Superintendent of BNSF’s Network Operations Center in Fort Worth
  • Vice President, South Region (before snagging his current gig)

Williams is stoked to have Gabriel on board, especially when it comes to the future of BNSF’s consumer products. “Jon’s experience and innovative spirit make him the perfect leader to guide our outstanding consumer products team to new heights,” Williams said. “His leadership will be key in driving continued innovation within this super important segment.” Way to pump him up, Williams!

A Seamless Leadership Transition

The appointments of Williams and Gabriel are all about keepin’ things runnin’ smoothly at BNSF. It’s clear that they’re all about seamless leadership transitions, which makes sense if they wanna stay on top of their game and keep leadin’ the industry for years to come!

Honoring Bobb’s Legacy: BNSF’s Future Built on a Foundation of Success

As Bobb rides off into the sunset (metaphorically, of course, he’s probably got a killer retirement plan!), it’s clear that his impact on BNSF will be felt for years to come. This dude’s dedicated over three decades of his life to the company, and his leadership has been instrumental in making BNSF the powerhouse it is today. Talk about leaving some big shoes to fill!

But fear not, BNSF fans, because the future looks bright with Williams and Gabriel at the helm. They’re both experienced leaders with proven track records of success, and they’re ready to take BNSF to even greater heights! Get ready for a wild ride!
