The event, a highlight of the Bronx’s calendar, was a testament to the unwavering belief in the potential of the borough’s youth.

This year’s ceremony was graced by the presence of several prominent figures, including Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, a staunch advocate for youth empowerment and economic development in the Bronx. Introducing the Scholarship Recipients

This year, three exceptional individuals – each with their own unique aspirations and drive – were selected from a competitive pool of applicants. Let’s meet the impressive young minds who are poised to become the future business leaders and changemakers of tomorrow!

Valery Sepulveda

A proud graduate of Bronx Collegiate Academy, Valery Sepulveda is set to embark on her higher education journey at Syracuse University. With her sights set on the world of finance, Valery plans to major in international finance, a field that perfectly blends her analytical skills with her passion for global affairs.

Her long-term goal? To make her mark in corporate banking, specifically focusing on international transactions and investments. Valery envisions a career where she can bridge cultures, facilitate global commerce, and contribute to a more interconnected world.

“I’m beyond grateful for this incredible opportunity,” shared Valery, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “College is more than just academics; it’s about exploring new horizons, meeting people from all walks of life, and discovering who I’m meant to be. I can’t wait to dive into my studies at Syracuse, and I’m determined to make the most of every single moment!”

Daniel Hostos Perez

For Daniel Hostos Perez, graduating from University Heights High School marks the beginning of a journey fueled by a deep-seated passion: mental health advocacy. Daniel is headed to Boston University, where he plans to delve into the intricacies of the human mind through a major in psychology.

His ultimate goal extends far beyond the traditional path of a psychology graduate. Daniel aspires to earn a PhD, eventually becoming a licensed psychiatrist. But his vision doesn’t stop there. He dreams of establishing a non-profit organization dedicated to providing accessible and culturally sensitive mental health services to adolescents, a demographic he believes deserves unwavering support.

“Mental health is just as important as physical health, especially for young people who are navigating a critical period in their lives,” Daniel emphasized. “I want to be a voice for those who feel unheard, to break down stigmas, and create a world where everyone feels empowered to seek the help they deserve.”

Joshua Kissoon

A graduate of St. Raymond High School for Boys, Joshua Kissoon embodies the spirit of a global citizen. He’s all set to join the Iona University community, where he’ll be immersing himself in the world of finance. His decision to pursue finance stems from a desire to combine his analytical prowess with his adventurous spirit.

Joshua’s long-term goal is a testament to his love for both numbers and new experiences. He envisions a career that seamlessly blends his finance expertise with his passion for travel and cultural exploration. Whether it’s working on international investment projects or advising businesses with a global footprint, Joshua is determined to turn his wanderlust into a fulfilling and impactful career.

“I’m so excited to experience all that Iona University has to offer, both inside and outside the classroom,” Joshua shared with a grin. “And of course, I can’t wait to explore the world, experience different cultures, and bring my financial knowledge to new and exciting contexts.”
