Charlotte Men’s Tennis Continues Home Stand Against UNC Asheville

Niners Aim for Third Straight Win at LifeTime Fitness

Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte Men’s Tennis (2-0) will look to extend its winning streak at LifeTime Fitness when they host UNC Asheville on Sunday, January 21 at 12 p.m. noon.

The Niners opened their 2024 dual match season indoors at LifeTime Fitness last week with convincing victories over Queens and The Citadel. They’ll look to make it three in a row against the Bulldogs.

Niners Start Season 2-0

Charlotte began the season with a 5-2 win against Queens and then completed a 7-0 rout of The Citadel the next day.

Junior Pablo Iturbe has been impressive at the No. 1 singles spot, going 2-0 with two match-clinching victories. Seniors David Sayegh and Caio Silva, and sophomores Pedro Prata and Nicolas Schlossmann are also 2-0 in singles competition. Prata and Schlossmann have teamed together for a pair of wins at No. 2 doubles.

Scouting UNC Asheville

The Bulldogs are making their spring debut after participating in four fall events, including the Charlotte Fall Invitational. UNC Asheville was picked to finish third in the Big South Conference this season. They return all but one player from last year’s 9-10 squad, led by 2023 First Team All-Big South Singles selection Sam Nicholson and 2023 Second Team All-Big South Doubles pair Jon Brann Reid and Rafa Serra.

Series History

Charlotte holds a 6-1 all-time record against UNC Asheville, including six straight wins. The last meeting was a 6-1 victory for the Niners in Asheville last February.

2024 Niners Schedule

The Niners have a challenging schedule this season, with five matches against 2023 NCAA Tournament participants and six against fellow American Athletic Conference programs. After this weekend, they’ll play six straight road matches before returning home in mid-February.
