Addressing the Needs of College Students


At Arkansas Tech University, the Health and Wellness Center (ATU HWC) is dedicated to fostering the holistic well-being of students, acknowledging that a healthy mind and body are essential for academic success and personal growth. In 2024, the HWC will continue to offer various initiatives and programs designed to empower students in navigating the challenges and opportunities of college life.

Coffee and Conversation: Providing a Platform for Open Dialogue


The “Coffee and Conversation” series is a recurring event held each Tuesday and Thursday at 3 p.m. in room 119 of the Doc Bryan Student Services Center. This initiative creates a welcoming space for students to gather, unwind, and engage in meaningful discussions about various topics relevant to their college experience. Participants can enjoy coffee, snacks, games, and prizes while connecting with peer health advocates and members of the ATU HWC staff.

Exploring Diverse Topics


The “Coffee and Conversation” sessions will cover a wide range of topics that address common challenges and concerns among college students. These topics include:

  • Readjusting to college after the break

  • Managing social anxiety

  • Coping with depression and anxiety

  • Building and maintaining healthy relationships

  • Navigating body image issues

  • Overcoming perfectionism

  • Achieving a balanced lifestyle through nutrition and exercise

  • Dealing with homesickness

  • Understanding and addressing gossip

  • Practicing mindfulness for stress reduction

  • Promoting suicide prevention

  • Developing effective study habits and time management skills
  • Mindfulness Mondays: Deepening the Practice of Mindfulness


    In addition to the “Coffee and Conversation” series, the ATU HWC will host “Mindfulness Mondays” each Monday at 3 p.m. in room 119 of the Doc Bryan Student Services Center. This group aims to provide students with a deeper understanding of the principles and benefits of mindfulness. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in guided mindfulness practices, discussions, and activities designed to cultivate greater awareness, presence, and resilience.
