WBBJ 7 Forecast Update: Dry Spell Coming Next Week

The West Tennessee region is bracing for a final bout of rain showers this weekend before a prolonged dry spell sets in next week. While the weekend may bring some wet weather, the upcoming week promises clear skies and chilly temperatures.

The Weekend

Saturday will witness a parade of rain showers, with the possibility of a few weak storms emerging in the afternoon. The rain is anticipated to depart by Saturday night, leaving behind mostly cloudy skies. Sunday will see a gradual clearing of the clouds, but sunshine is not expected until Monday. Although severe storms are unlikely, there is a chance of thunder and lightning as the weather front passes through.

The rain may offer a brief respite in the afternoon, but showers will persist into the evening hours. The intensity of the rain will decrease as the day progresses, with lighter showers towards the evening. Saturday night will witness the departure of the rain, leaving behind clearer skies.

Temperatures on Saturday will hover around the upper 40s to near 50 degrees Fahrenheit, while Sunday’s highs will only reach the low to mid 40s. Saturday night’s lows will dip to the upper 30s or around 40 degrees, with Sunday morning temperatures potentially dropping to the low to mid 30s. However, freezing temperatures are not anticipated. The winds will shift from the north to the northwest throughout the weekend, maintaining brisk conditions for most of Saturday. Some areas in West Tennessee may receive over an inch of rain before the system clears out, with the heaviest rainfall expected in areas experiencing weak storms or heavy rain bands early Saturday afternoon.

Next Week

Rain showers will bid farewell to the region next week, but temperatures will take a chilly turn as the new week begins. If Monday morning skies are clear, temperatures could plummet to the upper 20s. However, if clouds linger, temperatures may only reach the mid 30s. By Monday afternoon, highs will rebound to around 50 degrees, while Monday night lows will again drop to the mid 30s. Winds will initially blow from the west but will transition to the southwest on Tuesday, allowing temperatures to rise close to 60 degrees. A weak but dry front will pass through Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, causing Wednesday highs to dip back down to around 50 degrees.

Throughout the rest of the week and into the following weekend, temperatures will hover in the low to mid 50s, with morning lows typically falling back into the 30s each morning, but staying above freezing. The winds will have a westerly component for most of next week. Rain showers will remain absent, ensuring dry conditions.

Final Thought

The early-week snow has melted away, replaced by several rounds of rain showers. One last round of rain showers is expected on Saturday, with a few possible storms. However, severe weather is not anticipated in West Tennessee. Flooding concerns may arise, so rivers, creeks, and streams will be closely monitored later in the week. While many of these waterways are approaching flood stage, none are currently forecast to reach even the minor flood stage. The amount of rain received on Saturday may impact river forecasts for next week.
