In the Trenches: A Candid Conversation with Michigan Football’s New Head Coach, Sherrone Moore

January 2024

Jon Jansen:

Welcome back to In the Trenches, presented by Meijer. I’m your host, Jon Jansen, and I’m joined today by the new Head Coach of Michigan Football, Sherrone Moore. Coach Moore, thank you for taking the time to be with us today.

Sherrone Moore:

It’s my pleasure, Jon. I’m excited to be here.

Jon Jansen:

So, Coach, you’re just a few days into your new role. How has the transition been so far?

Sherrone Moore:

It’s been a whirlwind, but I’m loving every minute of it. I’ve already had the opportunity to meet with the players and the staff, and I’m really impressed with the talent and the work ethic that we have here. I can’t wait to get started on the field and start preparing for the upcoming season.

Jon Jansen:

I’m sure you’re eager to put your own stamp on the program. What are some of the things you hope to accomplish in your first year as Head Coach?

Sherrone Moore:

First and foremost, I want to build a culture of excellence within the program. I want our players to be not only great football players, but also great students and great citizens. I want to create an environment where they can thrive both on and off the field.

In terms of football, I want to implement a system that is both exciting and effective. I want our team to be known for its speed, its athleticism, and its ability to score points. But I also want to make sure that we’re playing sound defense and taking care of the football.

Jon Jansen:

You mentioned wanting to create a culture of excellence. What does that mean to you?

Sherrone Moore:

It means setting high standards for our players and holding them accountable to those standards. It means creating an environment where they feel supported and challenged, and where they’re always striving to be their best. It also means being a positive role model for our players and showing them what it means to be a successful student-athlete.

Jon Jansen:

I know you’ve been a part of some successful programs in the past. What are some of the things you’ve learned from those experiences that you’ll bring to Michigan?

Sherrone Moore:

I’ve learned that it takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and teamwork to be successful. I’ve also learned that it’s important to have a clear vision for what you want to accomplish, and to be able to communicate that vision effectively to your players and your staff. Finally, I’ve learned that it’s important to be adaptable and to be able to make adjustments when things don’t go according to plan.

Jon Jansen:

Those are all great lessons. I’m sure they’ll serve you well at Michigan.

Sherrone Moore:

I hope so. I’m excited to get started and to see what we can accomplish together.

Jon Jansen:

Well, Coach Moore, I know you’re a busy man, so I appreciate you taking the time to be with us today. I wish you all the best in your new role.

Sherrone Moore:

Thank you, Jon. I appreciate your support.

Jon Jansen:

And now, let’s welcome in Brian Boesch and Doug Karsch to discuss some takeaways from Coach Moore’s hiring and introductory press conference. Brian, Doug, thanks for joining us.

Brian Boesch:

Doug Karsch:
