Tinley Park Domestic Shooting: Four Women Killed


Tinley Park, Illinois – On Sunday, February 25, 2024, four women were shot and killed in a domestic incident that shook the community of Tinley Park, a suburb of Chicago. The victims, identified as Majeda Kassem, 53, and her three adult daughters: Halema, 25, Zahia, 25, and Hanan, 24, were found deceased inside their residence.

Police Response and Investigation

At approximately 11:20 a.m., police officers responded to a call regarding a shooting at the residence. Upon arrival, they discovered the four victims with gunshot wounds. A suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Tinley Park Police Department for questioning. Police also recovered a weapon at the scene.

The Tinley Park Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Police Chief Thomas Tilton stated that the incident appears to be a domestic situation but declined to provide further details due to the ongoing investigation.

Community in Shock and Mourning

The news of the shooting sent shockwaves through the Tinley Park community. Residents expressed disbelief and sadness at the tragic event. Charlotte Vaitkus, a neighbor of the victims, said she had known the family for 15 years and was devastated by the news.

“They were such a lovely family,” Vaitkus said. “I can’t believe this has happened.”

Vaitkus described the family as intelligent and without any known problems. She said her daughter and the victims’ daughters had attended school together.

Support for the Victims’ Family

The Village of Tinley Park and its residents rallied around the victims’ family, offering support and condolences. Village Manager Pat Carr expressed devastation at the incident and pledged the community’s support.

“We are heartbroken by this tragedy,” Carr said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ family and friends. We will do everything we can to support them during this difficult time.”

Carr also stated that the community would “rebound and be there for the family and neighbors.” A GoFundMe page was set up to help the family with funeral expenses and other financial needs.
