USF Men’s Basketball Claims Historic Victory and Ties Conference Record

A Resurgent Bulls’ Squad Makes History

In a remarkable display of dominance, the University of South Florida (USF) men’s basketball team secured their fifth consecutive victory and extended their winning streak to an impressive 11 out of their last 12 games. This exceptional feat propelled them to an impressive 13-5 record, mirroring the program’s best start since the 2001-02 season. The Bulls’ triumph over the University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) Roadrunners with a resounding 89-72 score at the Yuengling Center marked a significant milestone for USF basketball.

Bulls’ Stellar Performance Secures Conference Tie

USF’s victory not only solidified their position in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) but also earned them a share of second place alongside the No. 22-ranked Florida Atlantic Owls. Both teams boast identical 6-1 records in conference play, trailing only the Charlotte 49ers, who hold a slim half-game advantage at 7-1.

Record-Breaking Three-Point Shooting

The Bulls etched their name in USF basketball history by sinking an astonishing 18 three-pointers, a feat that shattered the previous school record of 14 three-pointers. This remarkable achievement marked the fourth time this season that USF had drained at least 14 three-pointers, with the most recent occurrence being against Alabama State on December 29th.

Bulls’ Dynamic Scoring Trio Leads the Charge

Kobe Knox spearheaded USF’s scoring attack with an impressive 18 points, accompanied by five rebounds and four blocks. His contributions were complemented by Jose Placer’s 16 points and Chris Youngblood’s 15 points. The trio’s sharpshooting from beyond the arc proved pivotal, as they collectively drained 12 three-pointers, fueling the team’s 18-for-33 (54.3%) shooting performance from long range.

Well-Rounded Contributions Boost USF’s Victory

Selton Miguel added 15 points and dished out a season-high six assists, while Kasean Pryor chipped in 12 points, bolstering USF’s offensive output. Brandon Stroud’s presence on the boards was instrumental, as he secured a season-high 12 rebounds.

Roadrunners’ Struggles Continue

Jordan Ivy-Curry emerged as the lone bright spot for the Roadrunners, tallying 23 points. However, his efforts were insufficient to prevent UTSA from enduring their seventh defeat in their last eight outings, dropping their overall record to 8-13 and their conference record to 2-6.

Bulls’ Historic Start and Conference Success

USF’s 13-5 start to the season marks only the seventh time in program history that the Bulls have achieved such a record. Moreover, their 6-1 mark in AAC play ties the program’s best conference start, equaling the 2000-01 team that competed in Conference USA.
